What is SilkCommerce?
SilkCommerce is an online store builder for businesses in Kenya and East Africa. You get your own store website where customers browse your products and pay with M-Pesa, plus one dashboard to manage products, orders, customers and marketing.
Can my customers pay with M-Pesa?
Yes. You choose how checkout works. Customers can pay with M-Pesa before the order is placed, by approving a payment prompt on their phone. Or they can place the order first and pay later, for example when you send them an M-Pesa prompt or on delivery.
Do I need technical or coding skills?
No. You sign up, upload your logo, pick a theme and colour scheme, and add products with photos, prices and sizes. You do not need to write code or hire a designer.
How long does it take to set up a store?
You can create your account, brand your store and list your first products in one sitting. Once your categories are set up, adding more products only takes a few minutes each.
Can I use my own domain name?
Yes. You can connect a domain you own, such as myshop.co.ke, so customers visit your store at your own web address. Buy the domain from a domain registrar first, then connect it from your store settings.
Can customers still order through WhatsApp?
Yes. Add your WhatsApp number and your store shows an "Order via WhatsApp" button, which sends the shopper's order to you as a WhatsApp message.
Can I record sales from my physical shop?
Yes. The point-of-sale (POS) screen lets you ring up in-person sales from the same product list as your online store, and you can send the customer an M-Pesa prompt to pay on the spot.
